CALLING ALL INVINCIBLES

(Sponsored by Y.M.C.A.)

Hullo, Girls and Boys,

In our radio sessions we have had many interesting talks about birds. We have talked about that strange and naughty bird the cuckoo. We have talked about the mysterious migration of the godwit, the mutton bird and the shining cuckoo. No doubt we will have other stories about birds. But this week I thought you would be interested in hunting for, and catching, the birds that are in the Bible. BIRDS OF THE BIBLE „ lives by pools of water. Isaiah 14:23. C tells of the coming of the morning. St. Mark 13:35. C makes a chattering sound. Isaiah 38:14. D has a doleful voice like someone mourning. Isaiah 28.14. E carries its young on its wings. Deuteronomy 32:11. H stretches its wings towards the south. Job 39:26. H gathers her chickens under her wings. St. Luke 13:34 P is cruel and lives in the wilderness, Lamentations 4:3. O lives in the desert, Psalm 102:6. P■ is hunted on the mountains, 1 Samuel 26:20. P Solomon had them brought in ships. 1 Kings 10:22. P lives in the wilderness, Psalm 102:6. Q came to the Israelite’s camp. Exodus 16:13. R has black plumage. Song S makes her nest on God's altars. Psalm 84:3. S knows the time to come. Jeremiah 8:7. S makes her nest in fir and trees. Psalm 104:17. V gathers with her mate. Isaiah 34:15. Look them up, write the names out as nicely as you can. If you can find cut-out pictures of any of them to stick on your entry, or if you can draw any. of them so much the better. Send by September 11th to The Padre, C/Y.M.C.A., Gisborne. A BIRD AND ITS YOUNG

Our space is nearly gone so our talk will have to be short today. But there is a bird mentioned in the Bible which has a wonderful way with its young ones. Its name begins with E- and you will be finding it for yourself in our competition. It makes its nest high up on precipices on high mountains. When the young ones are old enough to fiy the parent birds push them, squealing and struggling, out of the nest and over the edge of the precipice. They fall, and then in fee” they spread their wings and try to 1 itter back to the nest. At first they cannot get back, but look, the mother bird flies underneath the terrified desperate young one and catches it on her great out-spread wings. The young one holds on with its claws and is brought safely back. The next day it is done again until the young one learns to fly on mighty wings far up into the sky. 1 The Bible says that this is the way God deals with us. He pushes us out into life. But when we are about to fall we find that “underneath are the everlasting arms.” Next week I will print the names of those whom the Major calls the “Gen Wallahs”—the people who are good at solving secret codes. Tonight you will hear from 2Z.J at 7 p.m. that Very Important Person of whom I told you last SaturdayCheerio, The Padre.
