CONTRACTOR & CLERK APPEAR IN COURT
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, Aug. 3. A contractor and a clerk who were taken into custody yesterday following an investigation of complaints by the Works Department appeared in the Police Court today before Mr. H. Jenncr Wily, S.M. Mate Delicb, aged 53, contractor, was charged with stealing on May 24 £45 Gs the property of the Public Works Department.
The police said the amount mvolved would probably be about £SOO. George Malcolm Smith, aged 35, clerk, was charged with stealing on March 11 £74 8s 8d belonging to the Works Department. The police said the amount involved probably would be about £IOOO.
Both accused were remanded until August 23. Bail was allowed each in a personal surety of £IOO and another surety of the same amount.
