Reduction in Road Votes
An intimattion that the road vote for 1948-49 will be considerably lower than that for last year was received by the Cook County Council, at its monthly meeting on Thursday, in a letter from the Works Department. The letter expressed the opinion that, in view of the large amount of flood damage suffered by the county this winter and now requiring restoration, the volume of other work which could bo undertaken with a good prospect of completion would be small in any case. The council was asked to submit amended schedules of proposed expenditure indicating the works in hand at April 1 last, works already approved by the department for this season, new works not yet approved but regarded as urgent, and other works which could reasonably be expected to be completed if monetary authority were available. The council instructed its officers to provide the desired information, taking into account the priorities already decided upon in respect of projected works for this season.
