Howard, speaking on the Tuberculosis Bill in the House of Representatives today, said she hoped to have something done about an economic pension for tuberculosis sufferers before the end of the session. It would be necessary for the working of the bill to have the co-operation of the medical profession. She would like to see an institution for advanced cases in beautiful surroundings perhaps in Central Otago. New Zealand had 10 hospital beds for every 1000 of population —the highest proportion in the world. The sterilisation of crockery and also of tea towels and such things as floor mops used in eating houses was covered in eating house regulations prepared and about to be issued, said the Minister.
