Superforts On Round World Flight
(11 a.m.) NEW YORK. July 23. Three Superfortresses took off from Tucson, Arizona, on Thursday on a round-the-world flight.
The planes refuelled at Tampa, Flo rida, and took off again for the Azores. This is the first world-circling flight by Superfortresses. The Air Force planned such a flight more than a year ago but the proposal was turned down by the State Department. The present flight has the concurrence of the State Department. The flight is described as a routine, long-distance training operation. It will go eastward, via Azores, .Africa, Asia. Japan and Alaska.
