Savage Cloak Still Missing
The Gisborne Savage Club so far has had no response to its inquiries as to the whereabouts of the valuable Maori cloak, which went missing during the war years, during which the club was inactive. The garment, which was traditionally associated with the office of. the club rangitira, apparently was borrowed.from among the Savage Club effects during the storage period, and it was hoped that some Gisborne resident might be able to assist in its identification and return. As an example of Maori craftsmanship of an earlier generation it was intrinsically valuable, but more important from the club’s point of view is its sentimental association with many prominent Savage Club members and visitors of the earlier years.'
