LONDON, July 21. The Home Secretary, Mr. Chuter Ede. received a deputation of protest against the British Government’s prder that Mr. Frank Hampl, Czech secretary of the British Czechoslovak Friendship League, must leave the country within a fortnight. A Labour M.P., Mr. G. S. Wigg, said that after a deputation the Home Secretary had stated that the charge against Mr. Hampl was concerned with passing either wittingly or unwittingly a letter as a result of which “extremely valuable information prejudicial to Britain" got into the hands of another unnamed foreign Power. Mr. Wi«" said the person who collected the letter from Mr. Hampl was still “walking about the country” and a man who had left the letter with him was -a Czech in an official position. Mr. Wigg added that he would raise the matter in the House of Commons. The Czechoslovak Embassy has asked the British Government to place Mr. Hampl on trial. A Note from the Embassy says the Embassy is not aware of 'any activities of Mr. Hampl to justify deportation.
