ITALY’S EX-COLONIES IN AFRICA
HO a.m.) LONDON, July 22. The four-Power commission investigating the future of the former Italian colonies released its reports on Eritrea and Somaliland. All four members agree that only bout one-tenth of the Eritrean population favours the return of the colony to Italy. Of the remainder half favours union with Ethiopia and the other half wants independence and, meantime, fovours a United Nations’ trusteeship under a British mandate. Britain, the United States and Russia found that the larger part of Somaliland wanted four-Power trusteeship, leading to independence in about 10 yt The French delegate did not subscribe to this view. The report is being circulated to the interested countries.
