ACCUSED DENIES CAR THEFT CHARGES
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. July 23. The contention that a prima facie case of theft had not been established against Freeman Ronald Raine, aged 28, motor mechanic, in respect of four charges alleging theft of motor-cars valued at £2OOO was made by counsel for the accused when the case was continued in the Police Court.
Raine pleaded not guilty and was committed by Mr J. S. Hanna, S.M., to the Supreme Court for trial.
The hearing of evidence on a further charge of car theft was then proceeded with.
Evidence still remains to be heard concerning eight charges alleging the obtaining by Raine of over £3OOO by false pretences.
