INDOOR BASKETBALL
Top players of the various divisions of the Gisborne Indoor Basketball Association are being matched in teams at the Army Hall on Wednesday evening when the women A grade representatives play The Rest and the men A grade reps, are to be opposed by a combined M.I.A. side, while selected B grade players in the respective sections meet in rep. trial games. Teams announced are: Women, A Grade. —The Rest: Forwards, Misses V. Johnson, S. McKeague, A Shields, L. Hansen: guards. Misses N. White, J. Fitzgibbons, M. Third, M. McPhee. Women, B Grade. —White: Forwards, Misses P Evans, A. White, S. Hope, J. Englebretson; guards. Misses V. Coleman, P. Carr, Betty Kay (capt.), J. Costello. Green: Forwards, Mrs. Robb (capt.), Misses J. Morris, Ti Taua, B. Whaitiri; guards. Misses J. Gardner, S. Moss, E. Dunn, B. Robertson. Men, B Grade.—Black: Forwards, T. Cameron (capt.), H. Lee, R. Neale, McDonald, Herivel; guards, C. Torrey, K. Miller, I. Crafts, H. Tapping. White: Forwards, R .Barbour (capt.), R. Taylor, McGregor, J. Tutty; guards, R. Fyson, K. Bullivant, P. Millichip, B. Donovan. Competitions Progress The best of this week's competition games in the women's division was the close A grade match in which Rovers led Power Board by two points. In the women’s B grade a game marked particularly by alert defence left Sparks and Herald equal at full time, the former getting the decision in the extra period. Men’s senior games featured a fast display in which McGruers defeated M.I.A. Waituhi, while B grade matches included a very keen duel in which Public Service look the decision over Shamrocks. Details follow. Women.—A Grade: Tuis 35 v. Nurses 16; Rovers 25 v. Power Board 23; Wolverines 15 v. Dynamos 11. Women.—ls Grade: Petties 22 v. Squibs 9; Cassrells 14 v. Cannons 3; Sparks 10 v. Herald 8; Kiwis 23 v. Midway 15; Woolworths 19 v. M.I.A. 15. Men.—A Grade: McGruers 31 v. M.I.A. Waituhi 22; Sioux 26 v. Tigers 11: Banbams 27 v. M.I.A. Te Hapara 14.
Men. —B Grade: Y.M.C.A. 30 v. Barbarians 20; United 33 v. Celtic 17: Greyhounds 21 v. P.B.R.C. 9; Public Service 27 v. Shamrocks 22; Matelots w.o. Chisellers.
Next Wednesday’s play will mark the final appearance in the association games of the noted player, J. Hale, 'who is leaving the district. A leading member of the M.I.A. teams, he brought to the district considerable experience which he has placed at the disposal of all interested and has exercised a big influence in the development of the game.
