OVER FIFTY TEAMS TO PLAY FOR BASKETBALL SHIELD
Entries from Opotiki, Tolaga Bay, Wairoa, Hastings and Napier, together with a big Poverty Bay district contingent, make a total of over 50 basketball teams to contest the Kathleen Henderson Memorial Shield in the annual tournament to be held on the Gisborne courts on Saturday of next week. The competitions of the P.B. association will be suspended on that day. Last week's play in the P.B. competitions left Old Girls leading the A grade teams, St. Mary’s (B2) and Meteors, who meet at 2.30 on Saturday, occupying the two top places in the B grade first section, High School (B 3) leading Paikea and Renns in the B grade second section, and High School (C 5) and St. Mary's (C 4) leading the respective first and second sections of the junior division. The following three additional players are among the A grade representatives: P. McKenzie (Te Karaka), O. Morris (Te Karaka), E. Garbett (H.5.0.G.).
