Higher Salaries For Vicars Approved By Auckland Synod

AUCKLAND, July 22

The move to increase vicars’ salaries still further and to provide the same payments for those in the city and country was supported by the synod of the diocese of Auckland last night.

The synod passed a resolution that the standing committee be directed to prepare amendments to the appropriate statutes and bring them before the- next session of the synod to provide a minimum stipend of £450 for all vicars.

An increase of £25 yearly in salaries from April 1, 1948, was approved on the first day of the synod, bringing the minimum rate for parishes to £445 and for parochial districts to £385Thc synod also adopted a motion that the" incoming standing committee should consider ways and means of increasing the stipends of Maori clergy. General support was given to this proposal.
