FOWLS KEPT IN HOUSE AS PETS

(P.A.) HASTINGS. July 21. When the Hastings Borough Council proceeded against Mrs. Maria Annie Henrietta Rossini, aged 67, for an order for demolition of her cottage, in the Magistrate’s Court the borough health inspector, J. Hopkins, said numerous fowls wandered through the house, and roosted on pictures. Paper and scrim had come away from the walls, the floors had numerous rat holes,’ and the rooms were festooned with large black cobwebs hanging from the ceilings. In evidence Mrs. Rossini said she had bought the materials and was going to paint the house and the roof herself. She explained that the fowis were her pets, since she recently lost her cat and dog.

The magistrate withheld the order for a month to give the defendant time to make improvements, but warned her that she was in danger of being confined as a person who was unfit to take care of herself.
