SHIP BOUGHT FOR TOKOMARU BAY MEAT TRANSPORT
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. July 20. One of the oldest units of the Northern Steamship Company’s coastal fleet, the 109-ton motor-vessel Paroto. has been sold to Richardson and CoLimited, Napier.
She will be used as a lighter and will carry refrigerated cargo from Tokomaru Bay to Napier and irom Picton to Wellington.
The installation of insulated space ana of two new Diesel engines will begin at Auckland almost immediately and the vessel, when converted, will carry about 150 tons of cargo.
The Paroto was built by Mr. G. Niccol at Auckland in 1914 and is a twin-screw vesVel 87ft. in length. The purchase f is stated, is indicative of tt ie k e ,T e “ 01 the Richardson Company that the derpntralisation of overseas shipping is not likely to be restored within a measurable period.
