U.S. TO END BAN ON NEGRO DOCTORS?
NEW YORK, May 20. The New York State Medical Society, which is the second largest medical body in the United States, unanimously adopted a resolution designed to end discrimination against negro doctors. It will ask the American Medical Association to include a clause in its constitution: “No component society of the A.M.A. shall exclude any qualified physician from membership by reason of race, creed or colour.” Membership of a county medical society qualifies physicians for membership in the national organisations, but at present these societies in 17 States and the district of Columbia bar negroes.
