KAIFENG CAPTURED -SEVERE BLOW TO NATIONALISTS
(10.45 a.m.) NANKING. Jun c 20. The Control Yuan—China’s highest supervisory organ—has urgently appealed to General Chiang Kai-Shek to rush reinforcements for the defence of Kaifeng, capital of Honan Province. The Communists are reported to have broken into the northern and southern outskirts of Kaifeng. Honan leaders and Nanking have also called on General Chiang to demand the utmost effort to hold Kaifeng Nationalist planes bombed and strafed Communists who are reported to have lost 3000 killed in the last 24 hours. A later message says that official Chinese military reoorts announce cue virtual loss of Kaifeng. The Government defenders now hold only three main positions to the northeast of the city.
