DE GAULLE ASSAILS FRENCH POLICY ON GERMANY
(N.Z.P.A. —Reuter- Copy tight.) | (10.15 a.m.) PARIS, June 20. j Declaring that France- felt that her i destiny was once again gravely threatened. General De Gaulle in a speech at Verdun today said doubts which a tired 'France felt about herself combined with “illusion of our British and Ame- ! rican allies’ 1 had resulted after the I First World War in the revival and rearmament of German imperialism. General de Gaulle, calling for the reform of France, said: "Two-thirds of Europe and a big part of Asia constitute a colossal instrument of domination, more especially if the ambition of a revived Reich is sooner or later linked with it. "We see at this moment an inadequate French Republic authority risking the whole destiny of France by its attitude on Germany." Reuter’s correspondent in Verdun says all the air-raid sirens in Verdun screeched for 10 minutes as General de Gaulle was about to begin his speech commemorating the third-second anniversary of the Battle of Verdun. Police rushed to the Cathedral towers where the sirens are placed and searched for saboteurs but found none. They finally cut the wires linking the sirens with controls in the Fire Brigade barracks. An official inquiry has been opened.
