YORK BOWLERS DISMISS AUST. FOR 249: MILLER’S BUMPERS BOOED

(N.Z.P.A.—Reuter— Copyright.) (10 a.m.) LONDON, June 20. Accurate bowling on a helpful pitch toppled the Australian wickets in the second match against Yorkshire on Saturday. Bradman and Harvey adapted themselves quickly to the conditions, but the other batsmen found the soft wicket and flying ball too much of a change from the perfect conditions recently.

Harvey and Hamence were Australia’s stalwarts after Bradman, apparently trying to knock a left-hand spinner from Wardle, mishit a shortish ball into Yardley's safe hands. Harvey scored beautifully and made his 49 in 73 minutes He hit eight fours. Hamence secured ms 48 in 150 minutes. His total included three fours. Harvey attacked and Hamence defended, scoring principally from wristy offdrives through the covers. These three held the side together following Barnes' dismissal for a duck with the third ball of the day and the uneasy batting of the rest of the team. Another outburst of booing and cries of “take him off" followed seveiai legitimately short-pitched bumping balls from Miller in his last two overs of the dav. One ball pitched outside the off-stump and hit Hallidav on the hand. Then the batsman played a high defensive shot. Two in the next over flew over Hutton's head when he ducked.
