NO JAMAICAN TROOPS ABOARD SHIP
NEW YORK. June 4
Reports from Havana that the New Zealand Shipping Company's Empire Windrush is sailing for Europe with 1500 coloured troops aboard were denied by Reuter's correspondent at Kingston, Jamaica.
“The Empire Windrush embarked about 900 passengers at Jamaica. There are no military personnel aboard except a few Royal Air Force officers who have been in charge of demobilisation at Jamaica of former Royal Air Force men.” says the correspondent. An earlier report stated that the Empire Windrush entered Havana for water and provisions. She is operated by the British Ministry of Transport.
