STEADY GAINS BY CHINESE COMMUNISTS
(11.30 a.m.) NANKING. June 6. Communist forces are steadily overrunning the entire Tientsin-PuKow railway between the Shantung provincial capital of Tsinan and the North Kiangsu city of Hsuchow. The Nationalist command today ordered t-he Government forces in North Honan to move immediately to South-West Shantung and appointed General Liu Shih, described as one of the closest associates of General Chiang Kai-Shek and the wartime com-mander-ln-chief of the Chungking garrison, as overall commander of the battle zone Today’s moves followed the loss of two or more towns nn the railway and the start of a large-scale Communist assault on the important city of Hotse.
