TRAMWAYMEN GO BACK TO WORK

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, June 7. The Dunedin tramwaymen sang as they marched back to work at noon on Saturday after hearing the decision of the special disputes committee appointed by direction of the Minister of Labour, Mr. A. McLagan, under the strike and lock-out emergency regulations, 1939. A decision, which was made by the chairman after the committee had failed to agree, ruled that the moneys in dispute be handed to the chairman, who will forthwith pay them to the District Public Trustee who will hold them until the result of the June 9 hearing enables him to disburse the funds in accordance with the decision of the national tribunal. The decision also ruled that normal work be resumed under conditions of Clause 25 (2), and that no disciplinary action whatsoever be taken by the employer against the workers involved in the dispute. The chairman of the committee was Mr. W. H. Cadwallader, district superintendent of the Department of Labour and Employment, and associated with him were Mr. J. Anderson, chairman of the transport committee of the City Council, and Mr.' P. A. Hansen, national secretary of the New Zealand Tramways Union. The strike began at 2 p.m. last Monday.
