BABOONS COUNTER SHOCK TACTICS

Baboons used an ingenious device to enter several acres of mealies, fenced in with wire, at a farm near Melsetter. The farmer had the fence put round his mealies to keep out bush-pigs. To the fence he attached a small dynamo, which sent an electric current through the wires. This was successful against pigs. He was dismayed, however, when he discovered a large troop of baboons laying waste to his crops. On inspection he found that the baboons had torn off branches from adjacent trees and hung them over the fence, thus enabling them to climb over without experiencing any shock. Evidently the baboons had come in contact ; with the shock-tactics before.
