BLACK DIAMONDS
A Hawke's Bay business man with his wife recently made a tour of the West Coast of the South Island. They travelled in their own car, and their final consideration had to be the choice of something distinctively West Coast to take home for the benefit of the family. Something novel and preferably useful was aimed at, and it was decided that nothing better could be taken home than a sack of bituminous Westport coal. It was packed in with personal luggage; and the motorists told friends in Wellington, who had not used such good coal in their homes for several years, that the highly unusual souvenir of the Coast would create just as much interest in Hawke's Bay.—S.R.
