CONCERTED EFFORT AGAINST RABBITS

That many farmers had eased off in their operations to destroy the rabbit pest was an opinion expressed by Mr. D. L. Holt at a meeting of the Northern Hawke’s Bay Rabbit Board. Other speakers claimed that next to nothing was being done in rabbitinfested areas with the arrival of winter.

Mr. Holt urged that a concerted effort be made to clean up the country “with the second time round” of poisoning undertaken by the farmers. Mr. A. Cockburn: Yes, that would hold the country that is reasonably clean. The board dealt with a number cf instances of farmers haivng on hand larger stocks of poison than their areas warranted. It was decided that as from June 1 ratepayers on request would be supplied with poisoning material free of charge up to the amount of rates payable in respect of their properties, and that any further supplies would be made available to the ratepayers at cost price.
