VOLCANO ACTIVE IN BELGIAN CONGO

LONDON, May 10,

A new volcano erupting in the Belgian Congo is pouring a lava stream half a mile wide through the jungle. The volcano has been developing for some weeks, and is now 300 feet high. It is five miles west of the volcano Nyiragongo, and has broken road communications between Goma and Sake.

Lava is sweeping through the jungle at the rate of 12 yards a minute, starting huge forest fires. Trees explode when the engulfing lava turns their sap to steam. The Daily Express correspondent in Johannesburg says that some lava, at a temperature of 1,150 degrees centigrade. is pouring into a lake, causing explosions.
