SCHOOL RUGBY SERIES

TOLAGA BAY SCHEME

PLAY AND TUITION (Herald Correspondent )

Keen interest is being taken this season by the officials of the Tolaga Bay sub-union in promoting interest in Rugby among the junior players and the school-boys. A seven-a-side tournament has been irranged for the two grades—juniors and school-boys—on Monday. In addition, commencing tomorrow, and for succeeding Saturdays, matches for school-boys from schools in the district from Whangara to Anaura Bay are being organised. Play will commence at 10 a.m., preceded by lectures and instruction in the laws of the game. The boys will also be given the opportunity of learning the duties of touch judges and also in refereeing. A charge of Gd is to be levied on all playing in or attending both the morning and afternoon matches. This will entitled school pupils also to admittance to the grounds in the afternoon when the main matches are in progress. Plans for Transport Adults will be admitted to the morning games for Is, but will b e required to pay the usual charges for the afternoon matches. The proceeds derived from the morning matches, plus all childrens’ gate money received in the afternoon, will be devoted to insurance, and free transport for boys in outlying parts of the Tolaga Bay Rugby Sub-union extending from Whangara to the Hikuwai river. It is the intention of the sub-union to pay all monies’ into ~ separate school football fund. Any balance remaining will be divided among all schools in the area on a pro-rata basis, for expenditure on Rugby equipment. Credit for the organisation of the scheme is due to Mr. J. Williamson, the new president of the sub-union, who is taking a very keen interest in the furtherance and improvement of Rugby football generally in the district.
