W. SAMOA’S MARCH TOWARDS SELF-RULE
(11 a.m.) LONDON, June 2. The Associated Press correspondent in Apia says that Western Samoa made a marked step on the road to self-gov-ernment wha.i it raised its flag alongside that of New Zealand at a ceremony held in Apia on Tuesday. "We feel born again as a nation,” said Tamasesc, one of Western Samoa's two chiefs. Colonel Voelckner, New Zealand High Commissioner, said: "New Zealand is pledged before all the United Nations under the trusteeship agreement to work for the independence or full selfgovernment of these islands. It will be a happy day for New Zealand when she can leave Samoa strong and independent to stand alone."
