NEW SYDNEY £600,000 UNDERGROUND STATION

SYDNEY, May 7,

The N.S.W. Railways Department has started work on a new £600,000 underground station below Chalmers street, Sydney. This is the first move in building the new underground line from Chalmers street to Martin Place.

The line will be part of the projected Eastern Suburbs railway. Railway engineers say the station will take more than 12 months to build. It will have two island platforms, one above the other, and be like the existing station at Wynyard, There will be two entrances to the station, both in Chalmers street. One will be at the north end of the Dental Hospital. This will provide access also to the existing underground electric railway station in Eddy Avenue.
