MANGAPAPA PLAN
LINK WITH COUNTRY “ADOPTION” OF SCHOOL The “adoption” of a country school has been decided upon by the committee and teachers of the Mangapapa School, the object being to assist a smaller school by taking an interest in its activities and arranging for the country pupils to visit Mangapapa and spend a day in class with the pupils of a town school. “The idea has much to commend it, and it is believed that this school is the first in the Hawke’s Bay Education Board’s area to promote such a scheme,” states a report by the chairman of the committee, Mr. J. T. Hill. The report will be placed before the biennial meeting of householders at the school house next Monday evening. It was to be hoped also that transport could be arranged to bring the children of the “adopted” school in to town for the annual school ball. As a result of an annual bazaar and school ball, the school’s finances are in a prosperous state. The special account has a credit balance of £420 and the general account of £126. The acquisition of an area of land adjacent to the infant school in Rua street has been completed. With the assistance of parents, the committee has fenced and cleared the section and shortly it will be brought into use as a playing area.
