HEAVY U.S. OIL NEEDS “DIFFICULT TIMES AHEAD” LONDON. April 27. The Minister of Fuel, Mr. T. N. Gaitskell. addressing the American Chamber of Commerce in I-ondon, _ spoke of the ‘startling rise” in the United States consumption of oil. He added: “If the United States demand continues to rise at the present rate, I foresee a pretty difficult time for the rest of the world. There is plenty of oil in the Middle East, but it will take a long time to build refinery caoacity, tankers and pipelines.” Mr Gaitskell said Britain was abreast of her coal target so far this year, but production would need another spurt like last autumn to keen level.
