A.T.C. CADET PILOTS
MORE TO BE TRAINED (P.A.) WELLINGTON. April 29. The flying training scheme for Air Training Corps cadets throughout New Zealand during 1948-49 will be similar to that nearing completion and will allow 150 Dominion cadets to undergo 30 hours’ free flying with local aero clubs. The qualifications for the incoming cadet pilots will be three years’ secondary education, or the equivalent, and two years’ service with the Air Training Corps, together with a high standard of medical fitness. These details were given by the Minister of Defence, Mr. F. Jones, whq added that the parents’ consent for flying must be obtained and each trainee who completed the course must remain a member of the corps until such time as released by the R.N.Z.A.F. To ensure that cadets receive the full benefit of flying training, the Mnister said instructors at aero clubs must be approved by the R.N.Z.A.F. and must have passed through the approved instructors’ course. Provision would also be made for 10 hours’ refresher course for Air Training Corps cadets trained during 1947-48. _____
