TEN TEAMS TAKE PART ' PROMISING STANDARD Ten teams, comprising 110 boys and’ girls, gathered at the Childers Road Reserve on Saturday to open the junior boys’, and girls’ competitions o£ the P.B. Hockey Association. .> j Some good games were but as was to be expected with young and inexperienced players there was a tendency to wander over the field ,inJ stead of keeping position- As the season proceeds positional play will no doubt improve. School (A) 7 v. School o.—Displaying the benefit of the previous two years of play in this competition, some members of the team produced attract-* ivp hockey. Prominent were P. Williamson who played exceptionally wells D. Compton, P. Howie, E. Ferris, and D. Le Bas. Goals were scored by P, Williamson (4),. A. White (2), and J. Atkinson (1). Intermediate (A), 1 v. Intermediate (B) o. —Comprising mostly young players, without previous experience, thesa sides provided an interesting game. On the day N. Woods, E. Ria, M. Waipara and E. Menzies played weil. The only goal was scored by E. Ria. High School (A) 4 v. High School (B) 3.—Some good stickwork was noticeable and the use of the flick, scoop and push strokes is to be commendedFor the A’s, L. Underdown was outstanding in the backs. Chambers Roderick and Gregory were prominent in the forwards. For the B’s, Hambley and Odams were the pick, whilst Haache in goal made some good saves. The scorers for the A’s were Chambers. Kape, Roderick and Gregory. For the B's, Hambley (2), and Kent (1). Intermediate (A) 5 v. Intermediate (B) o. —The winners showed superior combination and ball control. Tamatea. Teua, Wilson and Carrington, Lardelli and N. Walsh were the outstanding players. Scores were registered by Tamatea, Tautahi, Wilson, Johns and Carrington. Intermediate (C) 0 v. Intermediate (D) 0. —The draw was a good indication of the run of play. Good players were R. Murray, Matanga, Piper, and Harrison.
