CALEDONIA DEFENCE SCHOOL BIDS CHECKED FOUR GOALS TO ONE In a fast-moving game marked by clever stickwork and sound sustained combination, Caledonia defeated High School (1) bv four goals to one in the senior competition of the P.B. Hockey Association, on the Gisborne ground on Saturday Territorially, Caledonia had the advantage throughout, but the scores would have been much closer had not R. Taylor, Corbett, and Lowe in the second half broken up right in the goal mouth some very determined and rapid thrusts by the High School forwards, Underdown, McGregor and Morgan. In the opening stages the Caledonia forwards pressed on the High School goal but Kemp and Ellis responded to the challenge and made some fine relieving hits to the wing. From a long pass, Woods trapped the ball and sent McGregor in motion. The High School reached the circle and Morgan pushed the ball into the net. High School 1. Persistent Attacks Shortly afterwards Caledonia retaliated with a series of attacks all along the line, and were successful from a central attack by Slade who broke into the circle. His stroke for goal was blocked, but Scholium following last made no mistake. Caledonia 1, High School 1. At this stage of the game Lowe, at centre half for Caledonia, was displaying almost uncanr.v anticipation. From one of his accurate wing passes McLean travelled down the left wing and cenired across the goal mouth. Turbitt dived into the circle and deflected trie ball into the net to put Caledonia a goal in the lead. The second half of the game was more evenly contested, both sets of forwards showing thrust, determination and good understanding For High School, Underdown, McGregor and Morgan were prominent in their repeated efforts to pierce the grim defence of Corbett, Purcell. Lowe. Douglas and Taylor. In two solo runs McGregor missed by inches.
In the Caledonia forward line McLean. Turbitt and Slade were hard to stop and McLean goaled from a smashing angle drive, whilst Slade found the net from . penalty corner. Caledonia 4, High School 1.
