ANZAC DAY HONOURED TEMPORARY ’DROME PLAN (S.R.I WAIROA, April 27. While playing in a friendly Rugby match on Saturday. Basil Laveridse. a young single man. employed at Okarc station, had the misfortune to have his jaw broken. After receiving first aid he was removed to the Wairoa Hospital where he is progressing as well as can be expected. In common with other parts of the Dominion, Wairoa honoured Anzac Day on Sunday There was no public gathering, but soecial services were conducted in all the churches and also in the country. There were large attendances and addresses appropriate to the. occasion were delivered by members of Ihe clei'gy. The honouring of Anzac Day on a Sunday appears to be. in public opinion, most appropriate, and popular belief now is that the day should be honoured on the Sunday nearest to April 25 in similar mqnner to that of yesterday. Whilst in Wellington last week, the chairman of the Wairoa County Council. Mr. A. T. Carroll, took no _ the matter of an aerodrome for Wairoa with Government officials and received a very sympathetic reply, it being understood that the Works Department will support the suggestion that the establishment of a temporary ground be gone on with by the local aero club. Further, it is believed that it is the intention of the Minister of Agriculture. Mr E. L. Cullen, to address a public meeting in Wairoa at an early date on the provision of a full-sized aerodrome. Prior to resigning his position as head gardener for the Wairoa Borough Council. Mr. George Jane, who had filled the position for many years, was met by fellow employees, and the foreman, Mr. K. Orr. in making a presentation of gifts for Mr. and Mrs. Jane, referred to the happy relations that had always existed between the retiring employee and other members of the staff. Mr. Jane suitably replied. The Rev. Father O’Shea has left Wairoa for Melbourne in order to be present at the Catholic centenary celebrations in that city. Messrs. H. and L. Mayo, Hastings, are visiting Mr. and Mrs. L. Summerfield, Wairoa.
