FERRY CONNECTION
TRAIN FROM GISBORNE For the first time in the six years that Gisborne has been served by a train to the south travellers from next week onwards will be able to leave here in the morning and connect with the inter-island steamer at Wellington the same night. Officially commencing next Sunday, the new time-table for the tri-weekly express train from Gisborne to \\ ellington will cut down the time of the journey to 12 hours, about one hour less than at present. Leaving Gisborne at 7.10 a.m., the train is due at Wairoa at 9.35 a.m. Arriving at Wellington at 7.15 p.m.. passengers will have little time to spare to catch the Nelson and Lyttelton ferries. The present 9.40 a.m. express from Wellington will now leave at 9.12 a m., arriving at Napier at 4.50 p.m., and at Wairoa at 7.42 p.m. Passengers will arrive a little over an hour earlier than is the case now. Express trains will still leave Gisborne for Wellington on Tuesday. Thursdays and Saturdays, returning on Mondays. Wednesdays, and Fridays. The deadline for sending parcels on (he Gisborne-Wellington express will lie at 0.30 a.m.. as from Tuesday of next week, while checked luggage will be deposited by 0.50 a.m. Organisational work at the Gisborne station in connection with the new train timetable has been almost completed while a certain amount of reorganisation lias had to be done at small stations between Gisborne and Napier. Several of these stations have now been eliminated as stunning places by the exnress hut will still be served by the dailv railcar.
