COLLIER DELAYED

SHORTAGE IN CREW fP.A.) WELLINGTON, April 27. The re-entry of the collier Wingatui in the Wellington-Westport coal trade after some months of overhauling has been held up by crew trouble. Departing from Wellington last week she was held up because several seamen were missing. On the second voyage, sailing from Wellington on April 23, the windlass broke down. A piece of scrap iron was found in the machinery. On the ship’s return to Wellington five firemen left because they objected to their wages being stopped for the time they were absent without leave. Under the Seamen’s award it is provided that there will be a stoppage of wages in such circumstances. Two other men left the ship yesterday morning and she now requires six firemen and one greaser. “The delay is particularly unfortunate in view of the parlous state of the Wellington coal stocks,” said an official of the Union Company.
