GUESTS OF PRESIDENT
ASSEMBLY OF HARRIERS RUN ON SCHOOL COURSE On Saturday members of the Gisborne Y.M.C.A. Harrier Club had their first invitation run of the season, being guests at the home of the president, Mr. H. Patterson. The attendance was the largest of the season so far. A pack run over the High School steeplechase course included a scratch run-in of approximately 1$ miles, starting from the western end cf the Awapunn golf links. The first six men home were P. Pollard, G. McDonald, G. Smythe, R. O’Kane, J. Jennings, and D. Miller in that order. Setting the pace all the way, Pollard won the hard way. Only a few yards separated Pollard and McDonald from start to finish while G. Smythe, content to run a race of his own, was 75 yards behind. A junior and a newcomer, McDonald gave a sterling performance and is expected to set a fast time with Pollard and Smythe next Saturday. Appreciation of the president’s invitation was expressed on behalf of members by Pollard as vice-captain, and the hope was expressed that the event would be an annual fixture. A meeting of members agreed that a committee of three be selected to allot handicaps for the sealed handicap race to be held next Saturday over the Kaiti Beach course of 4i miles.
