AUSTRALIAN BUSHFIRES POLICE INVESTIGATIONS SYDNEY, April 26. Police and private detectives the investigating the possibility that saboteurs caused the recent series of fires that destroyed vital goods and plant worth millions of pounds. Police believe the fire may be the work of a well-organised gang. Spec.acular fires in recent months have destroyed large quantities of cotton, chemicals, timber, wool, mechanical, electrical and radio equipment, glass and fodder. “We generally take as a starting point two mysterious fires which caused widespread damage to Australian paper manufacturers in December, 1946," said a police officer. “They were followed by a rapid succession of fires in vital intallations and stores throughout Australia," he said.
