£9OOO IN PROFITS FROM HOSPITAL FARM
Bought in 1921 at a cost of about £12,500, the Cook Hospital Board's dairy farm was probably the most costly land ever purchased for farming in the Gisborne district. Over the past 10 years the farm has shown profits aggregating £9087, the surplus for the immediate past year being over £2OOO. Referring to this improvement in the farm account in recent years Mr. IT. Cooper, chairman of the larm committee stated at yesterday s meeting that much of the success was due to the work of the farm manager. This man had shown a great aptitude for his work, said Mr, Cooper, and whereas he had previously had no acquaintanceship with winter milking and swine husbandry he was now [was qualified in both. Vital Factor in Improvement Mr H H. Barker commented that the supervision given by Mr. Cooper to the farm management had been a
vital factor in the great improvement shown in the farm account in recent years. The results showed that the farm was well managed and exceptionally well supervised. Mr. H. H. Dods supported Mr. Barker’s remarks, and the chairman, Mr. J. B. Williams, said that the board and the, district were fortunate that Mr. Cooper was chairman of the hospital farm committee. The board, on the motion of Mr. Barker, recorded its keen appreciation of Mr. Cooper’s services as chairman of the farm committee. The monthly report on farm operations showed receipts totalling £2GI from the sale of produce. Expenditure totalled £497, this sum including investments of £99 in seeds and manures. £153 in purchases of livestock, £32 in repairs to buildings and £3l in renewals of equipment. The excess of expenditure over receipts was £236 11s Bd.
