PARAU STREET
Sir.—Early In 1949 we may be honoured with a visit from our beloved King and Queen. As a trip up' Kaiti Hill will undoubtedly be one of the attractions it is to be hoped that something will be done to improve the approach to this splendid district asset. A recent letter over the pseudonym of “Visitor” suggested that Parau street, with its well-kept roadside lawns would be the ideal approach if only the creek were bridged. My suggestion is that both the Thirty Thousand Club and the Beautifying Society view this locality and then discuss the matter with the Borough Council. “Visitor” drew attention to the fact that the Borough rubbish dump was located in this street. Investigation discloses the fact that certain residents are dumping all their refuse on the banks of the creek. It is also apparent that cases of rotting fruit are being dumped there. This is a disgraceful state of affairs which should not be permitted to continue. Surely this is a matter for the Health Department. In the meantime residents whose properties adjoin the creek, although entirely blameless, can do naught but sutler in silence. CIVIC PRIDE
