UNITED CHURCH EFFORT
MAINTENANCE OF PEACE CRIPPS LAUNCHES APPEAL (11 a.m.) LONDON, April 25. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Stafford Cripps, speaking at a meeting of the Christian Campaign for Western Union in the Albert Hall tonight, said the present international situation called for the mobilisation of Christian effort and Christian faith in Western Europe behind the great political, social and economic drive to turn the future to the ways of peace, harmony and happiness. Sir Stafford added that the successful rehabilitation of Western Europe depended upon the reinvigoration of its soul and culture which had been the mainspring in its contribution to world civilisation. The Archbishop of Canterbury and the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Westminster were on the platform and the speakers included representatives of the Protestant and Roman Catholic churches of Belgium, France, Germany, Holland, Italy and Sweden.
