STOCK PRICES SOAR
NEW YORK EXCHANGE REASONS FOR UPSWING NEW YORK. April 23. Prices on the New York Stock Exchange soared higher today, adding almost 500,000,000 dollars in market values and for the second successive day, over 2,000,000 shares were traded. The gains were mostly fractional, , however, although industrial shares rose up to two points. The general market average is now at the highest level since August 30, 1046. Factors responsible for the strong upward trend of the last few days is thought to be the expectation that the European recovery programme will soon begin operation and the highly optimistic forecasts of favourable earnings for industry.
