NO ‘PRESS-BUTTON’ WAR
MONTGOMERY’S BELIEF LAND FORCES STILL VITAL (10 am.) LONDON, April 23. Scientists had not so far produced any weapon that could justify discarding the present-day technique of land warfare, declared the Chief of the Imperial General Staff, Field Marshal Lord Montgomery, in a speech in London “We must still remain prepared for battle on land,’’ he added. Any claim that a future war would be of the "press-button” type was not substantiated at present and was dangerous.
