DISPLACED PERSONS
CRITICISED BY EGYPTIAN LAKE SUCCESS, April 22. During the political committee debate today on the Palestine issue Mahmoud Bey Fawzi, Egypt, criticised Sir Carl Berendsen’e reference to displaced persons in his recent speech on the Palestine issue. Fawzi said: “I would have liked to have the eloquence of _ the Jewish Agency’s spokesman, combined with the incisiveness of New Zealand’s representative, to persuade the New Zealand Government to take in more displaced persons who are now in Europe or elsewhere. New Zealand’s population is not larger than the population of Palestine, and New Zealand territory is more able to take a reasonable portion of displaced persons than that of Palestine. But, no, they are very generous when it comes to telling others to be good and they forget to give similar advice to themselves.”
