TARANAKI TOUR

EIGHT DAYS AWAY HAWERA’S INVITATION DISTRICT Y.F.C. GROUP An invitation from South Taranaki to tour their district in June has been accepted by the Gisborne-East Coast Young Farmers’ district committee and at the annual meeting of the committee this week the proposed tour was discussed at length. The eight days from Gisborne and return will include a day at Palmerston North to visit Massey Agricultural College, Grasslands Division and possibly the seed-testing station. A party of 25 from this district was invited by the Hawera Young Farmers’ Club, the tour to commence on June 17.. The meeting agreed that young farmers making the organised trip would greatly benefit from the experience, and the inclusion of Palmerston North in the programme would widen the appeal of. the tour and make it more instructive. Short addresses on the Dominionwide activities of the organisation were given by three guests, Mr. C. Walker, assistant fields superintendent to the Department of Agriculture, Palmerston North, Mr. S. Freeman, Dominion organising secretary to the movement, and Mr. D. McLaughlan, Wellington council chairman. The election of officers resulted:— Chairman, Mr. D. G. Smith (Manutuke club); vice-chairman. Mr. I. Anderson (Te Karaka); delegates to Palmerston North council meetings, Messrs. S. D. Briant, D. G. Smith and R. Hickling (Gisborne). Mr. R. S. Whitehead was appointed secretary in place of the retiring secretary, Mr. A. A. Duncan, who was thanked for his past efforts on behalf of the movement in the district.
