WELLINGTON RATES SUPPLY SHORTAGES Supplies of fruit and vegetables have been particularly short the demand being far in excess of the supply, states the weekly report of Messrs. Townsend and Paul, Limited, fruit and produce merchants, Wellington, Late peaches and plums have been realising most attractive values, and passionfruit, over the past few days, has considerably increased in value. The demand for tree tomatoes, Chinese gooseberries and feijoias has been realising ceiling rates. The ceiling price had been the order in the vegetable section, with cauliflowers realising up to 26$ per case. Silvcrbeet, cabbage, parsnips and swedes were wanted. Prices:—reaches, 12s to ISs; plums, 13s to 225; tree tomatoes, 12s (ul to 22s 6d; passionfruit, 8s to 16s; Feijoas, 6s to 9s; Chinese gooseberries, 17s to 28s; chokos, 6s to 8s halfease; quinces, 8s to 12s case; Meyer lemons, N.Z. grapefruit, ceiling; grapes. Is 6d to 2s 6d lb.; mushrooms, good inquiry; tomatoes, ripe, as to 8s; coloured, 6s to 9s case; violets, 4s to 9s; dozen; chrysanthemums, 8d to 2s Gel; dahlias. 6d to Is Id; carnations, 6d to Is 3d bunch; beetroot, 10s to 15s; carrots, from 15s to ceiling; cauliflowers, 18s to 265; celery, 3s to 12s; cucumbers, 3s to 8s; leeks, 24s to 30s; spinach, 23s to 30s; rhubarb, 11s to 15s; lettuce, 10s to 14s; marrows, 3s to 6s case; sweet coin, 5s to 7s bag; pumpkins, plentiful, 5s to 10s sack; cabbage, kumaras, swedes, silvcrbeet, parsnip?, ceiling; peas, 8d to Is 2d; beans, butter 8d to Is, string 8d to Is 6d, scarlet runners Sd to 10s lb; spring onions, 2s to 3s 6d bunch; White Leghorn hens, 2s 6d to 4s; Buff Orpington hens, 4s 6d to 8s 6d; Rhode Island Red hens, 8s to 9s 6d ; cockerels. 2s; turkeys, 2s to 2s Id lb. live weight: ducks, white 6s to 13s, coloured 2s 6d to Ss 6d.
