YENAN EVACUATED
NATIONALIST “STRATEGY” I ALL DEFENCES DESTROYED (10.15 a.m.) NANKING. April 22. The former Chinese Communist capital of Yenan, in Shensi Province, was evacuated by Nationalist forces late yesterday. A spokesman of the National Defence Ministry said in Nanking that the evacuation was carried out in ac'cordance with a new strategy adopted three weeks ago and added: “Yenan has been rendered useless as all military installations have been - des troyed.” The Nationalists’ capture of Yenan last April has been regarded as their greatest victory over the rebels. The only other strategic point recaptured from the Communists still in Government Kinds is Chofoo.
