CEMETERY EXTENSIONS
ABOUT 300 ACRES NEEDED DEATHS IN NEXT 50 YEARS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 22. Deaths in the Wellington region during the next 50 years it is estimated, will be 150,000. The Wellington Regional Planning Council, which is planning for future burial needs, estimates that provided the present ratio between cremations and earth burials does not decrease, about 300 acres of flat, suitable land will be required for modern lawn cemeteries. Mr. E. P. Norman chairman of the technical executive of the planning council, said today that no final arrangements had been made for buying ground which would have to be distributed over the planning region, but surveys were being made. He added that some of the new cemeteries would probably need a crematorium.
