Jealous of the fact that the Gisborne area is free of any serious citrus disease and wishing to prevent the importation of citrus canker to the district from infected areas of the Dominion, members of the Gisborne Citrus Society at the annual meeting on Tuesday night moved as a remit to the New Zealand Citrus Council conference to be conducted in Gisborne next month the following: “Any area proclaimed as infected with citrus canker should not receive a clean certificate for the sale of nursery stock to other districts until there is no further outbreak for five years: nor should the area be permitted even to propagate any stocks.” Flying Scholarship During the coming months an airminded youth in Gisborne will be fortunate enough to receive free flying instruction to the extent of £SO from file Gisborne Aero Club. At Tuesday night’s meeting of the Gisborne Borough Council a letter was received from the Gisborne Aero Club suggesting the conducting of a flying scholarship among local air-minded youths, the winner to be trained by the club with the £SO grant made last year by the council. The club proposed to give all entrants some dual instruction and the i the candidates would be ranked for" aptitude by the instructor. The Mayor. Mr. N. IT. Bull, and councillors were unanimous that the grant should be expended in the manner proposed by the club, and gave their permission accordingly.
