MACHINERY FOR MINES
ORDERED FROM BRITAIN EQUIPMENT FOR STOCKTON (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 22. A contract had been let for a good many months for the erection of a transport aerial to serve the three mines of the Stockton area but it would be anything up to two years before it could be completed, stated the Minister of Mines, Mr. A. McLagan, in reply to an inquiry last night as to the progress with the proprogramme for the mechanisation of mines. The transport aerial would cost £500,000 and it would enable the output to be doubled. _ The Minister said that small quantities _of plant, • principally boring machinery, were arriving from time to time. The Mines Department had on order plant for the complete mechanisation of the Webb Mine at Stockton at a cost of £40,000. The equipment for mines was coming principally from Britain and anything the United Kingdom could supply was being" obtained from that source. Big earth-moving machinery which Britain was unable to supply was coming from the United Stales.
